1) Top of the list has to be - BE PREPARED! I'm openly admitting this holiday crept up on my ass and I haven't been prepared enough. Preplanning activities that will keep your kids busy and also fit in with your lifestyle choices will save you a huge amount of stress and temptation.
2) Next up, Be flexible. There's no point expecting your kids to come out on your 5K run, some older children might revel in the challenge but younger kids will get tired, grumpy and slow you down. Fit your exercise in around them and incorporate it into your weekly activities. Go on a nature walk, take a bike ride, play football in the park. A change is better than a rest!
3) Don't fill the house with junk! Yes it's a holiday and it's nice for kids to have treats but with Halloween just around the corner they really don't need anymore candy than what's already coming to them. ( I'm learning this the hard way this holiday). With the essential preplanning from the number 1 spot and a little prep you can have a host of healthy ingredients ready to make healthy treats which you and the children can enjoy in moderation. You can even make it part of the holiday fun by having the kids prepare the treats alongside you. My children love to cook!
4) Stay headstrong! The stresses of the holidays get on top of us all but with positive affirmations you can stay on top of your game and not be so tempted to put that chocolate or pizza in your mouth! Remind yourself of your goals and visualise yourself reaching them, that feel good factor should be enough to keep you on the straight and narrow.
5) Finally, HAVE FUN!! Kids are only young once, make the most of the precious time your given together outside school and work and make some fabulous memories! With the help of tips 1-4 this should be totally possible.......Enjoy the holidays!!
